Jewellery with old glass beads and a special story

Many pieces in the Koperberg jewellery collection are made with beads that each have their own history and character. Some are newly made using traditional techniques, while others are old or reused beads that were once part of earlier jewellery.

A beautiful example is the so-called white heart bead: a glass bead with a white core covered by a layer of coloured glass. This technique has been used for centuries and creates subtle colour variations and a lively appearance.

Bonda beads from Odisha

Especially distinctive are the Bonda beads. These are reused glass beads from necklaces originally worn by Bonda women from Odisha in India. By incorporating these beads into new jewellery, they are given a new life while their original character remains visible.

Small differences in colour, size and surface are part of the charm of these old beads and make every necklace or bracelet slightly different.

Handmade necklaces and bracelets

The collection includes a wide variety of handmade necklaces and bracelets, from simple strands of fine glass beads to designs that combine different colours, materials and symbolic elements.

Many pieces are produced in small quantities. Rather than having the uniformity of machine-made accessories, the jewellery retains the subtle variations that belong to handcrafted work and older materials.

Malas made from wood and semi-precious stones

Alongside jewellery with glass beads, Koperberg also offers malas made from materials such as rosewood and sandalwood, sometimes combined with semi-precious stones. Traditionally, a mala consists of a string of beads and is used during meditation and the repetition of mantras.

Beyond their original purpose, malas are also worn as personal jewellery in which material, colour and symbolism come together.
