Handmade paper
Our handmade paper is crafted with love in Nepal from sustainable materials like recycled Lokta paper and farm and cotton waste. This unique paper becomes the foundation for an array of beautiful products.
It is made in a Fair Trade cooperative of roughly 100 members, all employees of the company.
Paper making
A mould & deckle is lifted through paper slurry, a thin layer of pulp is left on the screen. The pulp consists of farm and cotton waste and recycled Lokta paper. So no trees are cut down. The paper sheets are attached to a flat surface and dried using the power of the sun. They are coloured with AZO-free dyes. All wastewater is treated to minimize environmental impact. The skilled artisans apply decorations using the screen printing technique and carefully assemble and pack the various products by hand.
Our impact
By supporting our products, you contribute to the cooperative's various social initiatives, including girls' education, AIDS awareness, and anti-trafficking programs. (Women)Empowerment is key; a management committee is elected annually to participate actively in decision-making processes.
What's more, for every ton of paper we buy, 17 trees are planted in a forest in Nepal. Together we can make a positive impact on both the planet and the livelyhoods of our paper producers.
