Decorating textiles
Block printing is an ancient technique for decorating textiles. We use this technique for the decorations on yoga pillows and mandala buntings.
Carving
The first step is to make the block printing stamps. The designs are skilfully carved from a block of wood using small chisels. The block is then fitted with a handle. The resulting relief looks like a small work of art. It is therefore not surprising that old block printing stamps can be found as objects in many interiors.
Block printing
The craft of block printing was dominated by men, but nowadays also women master it. In our women led workshop, textile dye is applied on the printing blocks and the design is stamped on the fabric.
The result is a decorated fabric that shows the handiwork of the artisans involved in the process!
