Blockprinters | Nepal

The mandala buntings and tassel garlands are hand made in Nepal. Two workshops are involved in the production of the mandala bunting. A block printing studio makes the mandala-decoration with wooden blocks. The flag lines are made in a sewing workshop by skilled ladies. They cut the cotton, overlock the edges and stitch the flags around the cords. There are a number of electrical machines in the sewing workshop, but most sewing machines are operated by feet.

The workshops are affiliated with Sana Hastakala; an organisation that supports small scale handicraft producers in Nepal. Sana Hastakala means ‘small handicrafts’ in Nepali. They assist the producers with financial and technical support, training and marketing. They empower women by giving them the change to become a skilled producer.
