Tribal art, antiques and vintage pieces from India
The Koperberg Vintage collection has its roots in the travels and collections with which the company began more than fifty years ago. Over the years, distinctive objects were found throughout India: everyday items, religious figures, tribal art and handcrafted pieces chosen for their material, form, age or story.
Many objects are unique or available only in very small numbers. Signs of use, patina and subtle irregularities are part of what gives these vintage pieces their character.
Indian figures and religious objects
The collection includes old and vintage Hindu and Jain figures, small household altar objects and items connected to religious and everyday traditions.
A Nandi, the sacred bull associated with Shiva, a lingam or a small altar figure is more than a decorative object and often carries cultural and symbolic meaning.
Dhokra: traditional metal craftsmanship
Dhokra objects also form part of the collection. This traditional Indian metalworking technique uses the lost-wax process, creating a characteristic surface and subtle variations in shape and finish.
Dhokra figures, animals and decorative hangings combine powerful, graphic forms with an ancient craft tradition.
Uruli bowls, tribal objects and everyday pieces
Some pieces originally served a practical purpose. A bronze Uruli from Kerala is one example. Other objects come from tribal traditions, including baskets and decorative pieces from regions associated with communities such as the Naga peoples.
Placed in a contemporary interior, these objects can begin a new chapter without losing their original character.
Mithila and other traditional art forms
Alongside figures and objects, the collection also includes traditional art such as Mithila paintings. This colourful Indian art form is recognised by its strong lines, patterns and narrative imagery.
The Vintage collection therefore brings together many forms of Indian and tribal craftsmanship, from metal and stone to wood, paper and textiles.
Selected piece by piece
Koperberg selects these objects not as mass-produced decoration, but for their appearance, origin, craftsmanship and distinctive details. The collection changes continuously, and an individual piece often cannot be replaced once it has been sold.
A selection can be viewed online, and you are also welcome to visit the showroom to discover more unusual vintage objects and finds in person.
